Free DBT Skills Group in West Kelowna
Free DBT Skills Group in West Kelowna
Learn practical skills for managing emotions, getting through difficult moments, and communicating more effectively.
Orchard Valley Counselling Services offers a free DBT skills group once a month on a Wednesday evening at 301–2205 Louie Drive, West Kelowna. The group is facilitated by Angie Dirksen, Registered Clinical Counsellor.
What is the group about?
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) offers skills you can practise in everyday life. In this group, Angie introduces approachable tools for noticing your emotions, responding to stress, handling difficult situations, and expressing your needs. DBT skills are commonly organized into four areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

How can DBT skills help?
The group gives you a place to learn and practise responses you can draw on when life feels overwhelming. Topics may help you:
- Recognize what you are feeling before you react.
- Use DBT skills to get through difficult moments, even when you can’t solve the problem right away.
- Understand emotional patterns and respond with more intention.
- Communicate needs and set boundaries in relationships.
- Build skills you can continue using between sessions.
Why attend?
Reading about a coping skill and using it in a hard moment are different things. A group gives you time to hear an explanation, work through examples, and consider how a skill could fit your own life. You can attend if you are new to DBT and want a practical introduction.
This monthly group focuses on learning DBT skills. If you are looking for individual counselling or a comprehensive DBT treatment program, contact us to discuss what support may be appropriate.
