Groups in Kelowna and West Kelowna

We’re excited to be offering some new groups within the Central Okanagan area. This includes the areas of Kelowna and West Kelowna. The types of groups we have are varied. We categorize them into two groups: one being psycho-educational groups and the other a therapeutic group. Psycho-educational groups are actually one of a few effective ways to provide more information. This information is on a variety of mental health topics, These topics include mental health disorders and mental health problems.

The most important thing to know about psychoeducation is, that it’s not just about providing information. It’s actually also about providing a helpful learning opportunity for skill building. This can be very useful when it comes to learning to manage and cope with a mental health condition.

Psychoeducation is now considered one therapeutic avenue of treatment for mental health disorders and mental health problems. This type of education is not just about offering some information. Learning skills for living with your mental health concerns is an essential part of coping. This is a recognized part of the therapeutic process. Psychoeducation provides people with mental health conditions information about the causes, symptoms, prognosis, and treatments of their diagnosed condition. If you engage in psychoeducation programs as a participant, you will quickly learn what to expect, what you can do, and how to work to improve your condition. The best way to view it is as a tool for personal development and even prevention of a relapse.

Therapeutic groups are about working with many clients in a group setting. This is usually provided by two facilitators with the goal to include aid in alleviating any distress through talking and expressing feelings; helping to change attitudes, behavior, and old patterns that may be unhelpful; and encouraging additional constructive and adaptive coping strategies. Some groups may focus on providing participants with information about specific issues or teaching them coping skills as well.
