Direct Billing To Insurance Companies

Orchard Valley Counselling Services works with many Extended Insurance Plans within Canada

Many extended health insurance plans provided by employers pay for counselling by a  “Registered Clinical Counsellor” (RCC) or a “Certified Canadian Counsellor” (CCC) of your choice, or a “Registered Social Worker” (RSW).  For example, many employees of Interior Health Authority and the SD 23 Central Okanagan Public School Board have a certain amount of benefits available per year through their extended health care plan.  Depending on your specific plan, you may have the coverage required for a counsellor that has the required designation.

We recommend that if your in doubt about what type of counsellor is covered under your plan, contact your Extended Health Plan Administrator or HR person to find out what counsellor designations are covered under your Extended Health Benefit Plan. So you may want to ask them – We do NOT employ Psychologists.

You may be eligible for reimbursement up to your yearly maximum, which can vary any where between $250/ policy to $1,000/ policy year.  For more details, again we suggest you contact your insurance provider directly since each insurance plan is so different. We also handle ICBC and FNHA claims.  Contact us for more information on which of our counsellors are approved as a provider for these or other claims.

What is Direct Billing?

Direct billing refers to medical providers/practitioners (ie. registered counsellors, registered massage therapists, registered physiotherapists; etc), send their bills straight to the health insurance company for payment, rather than having the client pay the bill for service upfront and submit their invoice/receipt for reimbursement.

This can save the client time in having to deal with the insurance company for reimbursement, and the client need only pay for the part that is not covered by their insurance.

Counselling Services provided by a Registered Social Worker, or a Registered Clinical Counsellor or a Canadian Certified Counsellor may be covered under most employee extended health benefit plans.

Please Note: There is NO guarantee that direct billing is accepted by every health benefit plan. Also it may not be accepted at every appointment due to issues with individual insurance benefits plan, issues with insurance plans site for submitting claims, insurance company having maintenance problems or clinic logistical considerations.
