8 Distraction Techniques When Coping With Anxiety
1. Have a hot shower or a nice warm bubble bath.
2. Try chewing some gum.
3. Count the number of shapes you see in your environment.
4. Count the number of different colored green objects you see outside the car window or in a building that your visiting.
5. Count the change slowly in your pocket or purse.
6. While you’re driving count the number of persons you see walking along the side of the road.
7. Snap a rubber band around your wrist or hold an ice cube in your hand. This might shock you into thinking about something other than your anxious thoughts.
8. Smelling an orange or peppermint scent can refresh, lifts your mood, and enhance your senses.
